MC to revamp Derabssi parks
Mohali: Parks in Derabassi, which are in a dilapidated condition, are all set to have proper sitting arrangements, water and toilet facilities and reading sections, said an MC official.
“A decision has been taken to revamp the parks. For this, a survey will be conducted after which we will initiate the repairing and beautification works. We will also make small mountains to stop waterlogging in the parks,” said the official.
The gardens would be levelled so that kids and morning walkers do not face problems even during the rainy season.

Parks in Derabassi were becoming unpopular among the residents due to their non-maintenance. A number of them has stopped taking a walk or sending their children to play owing to their poor upkeep.
Amandeep Singh, a resident of Derabassi, said, “The parks are dirty and swings are broken. Water too gets logged during the rainy season raising a stink. They also become a breeding ground of the mosquitoes causing deadly diseases. I have stopped going there and have told my grandchildren to stop too.”
The railings in park, installed to prevent the entry of vehicles and stray animals, are torn apart mostly by the residents to take a short cut into it. Even the benches are broken leaving no place for the residents to sit.

The decision to revamp the park came after the residents complained about the miserable condition of the parks.
Another resident Vineet Ahuja said, “Senior citizens and women want to sit in the park for long time and study in peaceful environment. We hope that this step by the civic authorities will be able to provide that.”
MLA N K Sharma said, “The first step to maintain the park has already been taken. We are now planning to fine whoever is spotted littering the park. This will discussed in the next house meeting also.”
